Being the Role Model: Parent Modeling

Showing your children that you eat nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables actually have a positive impact on how they view eating nutritious foods and make them more likely to eat them.

Did you know?

In order to motivate kids to copy constructive behavior, modeling needs to be consistently repeated in a positive environment to avoid bad associations with food (especially fruits and veggies), so no forcing, scolding, or punishing should come out of encouraging fruits and vegetables.

Examples of nutritious food modeling

  • Eat fruits and vegetables at multiple meals

  • Encourage children to eat fruits and vegetables

  • Try new fruits and vegetables often
